What should I look for in a doctor?

Answered By Dane Loveless, Editor

Although there are issues about therapy, medication or a mixture of both are best for depression, there is still one type of a doctor who is qualified to cure depression and other mood problems using prescriptions – a psychiatrist.

A psychologist is also eligible to cure depression, but they are not medical doctors and so, they cannot recommend medications. A psychologist specializes in talk therapy. If you are not sure whether you need drugs, it is still best to start your treatment under the concern of a psychiatrist.

If do well in the talk therapy, psychiatrists are usually able to manage this also. Some may opt to refer you to another therapist.
